Bulk Mail Services
Introduction
Bulk Mail Services (BMS) can process nearly all of your bulk mailings. "Bulk mail" refers to quantities of mail prepared for mailing at reduced postage rates, also sometimes identified as "presorted" mail.
For bulk mail, BMS primarily uses the Non-Profit permit imprint. The permit imprint is usually pre-printed on your material, but we can also print it. We can also apply postage by meter or stamps.
The normal time to process your job is 3 working days. If your job requires a lot of hand processing, additional time will be needed.
To initiate Bulk Mail services, fill out our Work Request Form. If you have special job requirements or are looking for ways to save money, call us at 752-6685.
Bulk Mail Requirements
To qualify for bulk mail rates, your mailing must meet the following minimum piece requirements:
All bulk mailing must be sorted, sacked and trayed, according to postal regulations and the proper postal forms must be filled out and accompany the bulk mail to the Post Office. We can handle this for you. Start by filling in our Work Request Form.
USPS Coding Accuracy Support System (CASS) Certification and Zip+4
BMS must standardize and
CASS certify all mailings when we claim any postage discounts other than the basic presort bulk rates. This is a free service that we do automatically. This service is only helpful as long as your mail piece is automation compatible. For further information on automation compatibility, please refer to
USPS Standards, or call Bulk Mail Services at 752-6685.
General Distributions
General distributions are items such as memos and flyers that must be delivered to all departments on campus and/or UCDMC, but do not need to be individually addressed. The department sending the flyer must be identified on each flyer and the content must be official university business. This delivery method minimizes preparation by your department and allows Mail Services to deliver your material quickly. Items such as posters and single sheet flyers that exceed 11 1/ 2" X 15" must be folded in half. Up to two copies of loose sheets can be distributed to each department. Distributions of over two copies per department must be stapled together. Please call Bulk Mail Services at 752-6685 to find the exact number of items needed for your general distribution.
